Rhydian Roberts is one of The X Factor's more successful – and certainly more interesting – nearly men. His first two albums shifted impressive units, and now the platinum-ginger bombshell has taken an intriguing turn with this covers set.

Apparently inspired by finding an old compilation tape his brother had made, and not recording over it with vocal exercises for once, Roberts decided to make an album of songs just beyond the 80s nostalgia net.

So, among others, he launches into The Icicle Works' Love Is A Wonderful Colour, The Mission's Tower Of Strength, The Lover Speaks' No More 'I Love You's (taken stratospheric in the 90s by Annie Lennox) and an affecting version of Breathe's 1988 top five hit Hands To Heaven. These are big, showy, emotional numbers, perfect for Roberts' baritone. He can lend grandeur to already pretty majestic songs.

It's a curio more than a tour de force – there's a touch of the ham about the man and some of the arrangements veer towards the tinny when they really needed to go big and bold. Nonetheless, this is a fun and canny change of direction.

This may be Kate Royal's first solo disc, but she has been making rather large waves in the classical music world for a while now. As the 2004 winner of both the Kathleen Ferrier and John Christie awards, with critically acclaimed Glyndebourne and Royal Opera House performances, and appearances on Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum recording and Ian Bostridge's latest disc of Handel arias and duets, one would expect her to have recorded a pretty special recital. And she has.

Royal is accompanied by Edward Gardner and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and her recital takes the listener from French cantata to English folk song by way of Strauss. It includes old favourites such as Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne alongside lesser-known works such as Debussy's 'Air de Lia' from L'Enfant Prodigue. Although there is no particular theme, Royal plainly has an affinity with music of and inspired by Spain. It pervades much of the recital, from Ravel's 'Vocalise en forme de habanera' to Rodrigo's gorgeous 'Cuatro madrigals amatorios'.

Royal's voice is just sublime; rich, warm and pure, it is able to be both lightly playful in Canteloube's 'Malurous qu'o uno fenno', and languorously dreamy in Strauss's 'Wiegenlied'. I could listen to it all day. What really sets her apart, though, is her ability to get under the skin of a song's lyrics to take on their emotions. She doesn't just sing a song; she becomes it. Take Delibes' party piece, 'Les Filles de Cadix'. This puts in an appearance almost too regularly on recital discs and, whilst it may be fun, unless acted convincingly it can fall flat as a pancake. There is no danger of that here though. Royal's interpretation is full of panache and fiery coquettishness. Likewise, she takes on all the wistfulness, then hope, of the jilted maid in 'The Sprig of Thyme', and the hollow loneliness of Rodrigo's beautiful madrigal, 'Â¿Con qué la lavaré?' Kate Royal is much more than just a beautiful voice. This is music and singing to savour. --Charlotte Gardner

One of the World's Great Voices Puts Her Indelible Signature On Songs By Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Death Cab For Cutie, The Mars Volta, Muse, and of course, Leonard Cohen. Renée Fleming s new album 'Dark Hope', which the opera star describes as a visit to a new universe for her, will be released by Decca this spring. The album was recorded in close collaboration with producer David Kahne (Regina Spektor, The Strokes, The Bangles, Sublime, and countless others) in New York City, and features a diverse and adventurous track listing of songs as interpreted by one of the world s great voices. Fleming, the superstar soprano known as "the people's diva," says of the songs on 'Dark Hope': "One of the ways that you keep people interested is by taking risks and what could be a greater risk than this?" Producer Kahne was a true collaborator during the recording process, driving most of the arrangements and pushing Fleming to learn how to sing all over again. Also joining Fleming on the album are her two daughters and sister, who sing backup on several songs.

The album features a voice that's been called "superlative" (Denver Post) and "radiant" (Chicago Tribune). But Fleming says that for the recording of this album, "Singing in a small, acoustic booth, with a microphone that s very close, in this very intimate style, is the complete opposite of what I [usually] do." There were similarities to how she prepares for an opera role, however. Fleming points out that for each track on 'Dark Hope' "we found an interpretation that enabled the point of view to sound authentic coming from me. Every song has a story like that, so this whole idea of enacting or playing a role is doubly true for this music." Renée Fleming, a Fulbright Scholar and three-time Grammy award winner, is one of the world's most famous and accomplished vocalists. A New Yorker who made her professional opera debut in 1986 and her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1991, she has had star roles at great halls worldwide and last year was a featured performer at President Obama's Inaugural Celebration. Fleming has also had an interest in jazz since her college years at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and has recorded jazz repertoire throughout her career including 'Haunted Heart', the lauded collaboration with pianist Fred Hersch and guitarist Bill Frisell.

David Burnham just returned from New York where he played Fiyero in the Broadway production of "Wicked" having created the role in the original Los Angeles workshop productions. David was a member of the original Broadway cast of the 6-time Tony Award winning musical "The Light In The Piazza", performing on both the "Tony Awards" and the PBS telecast "Live From Lincoln Center". David was the 2007 recipient of the prestigious "Helen Hayes Award" for best actor as well as the 2007 best actor "Garland Award" for his portrayal of Fabrizio Nacarelli in the national tour of "The Light In The Piazza".

In New York City he lent his talent to the Actor's Fund production of "On The 20th Century" at The New Amsterdam Theatre and performed his solo concert at the famed New York jazz club "Birdland" and the "Metropolitan Room".

David first gained critical acclaim when, after a two year search, he was chosen to replace Donny Osmond in the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (Dramalogue Award) a role which he has subsequently played 4 more times in productions all over the country.

At Boston's North Shore Music Theatre he created the role of Tom in the new musical "Tom Jones" as well as the role of Billy (opposite Maureen McGovern) in the new musical "Letters from 'Nam", a role which he reprised at The Kennedy Center and Seattle's Village Theatre. In Chicago he originated the role of Charlie in the world premiere of "Peggy Sue Got Married", after touring the country as Peter in the national tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (opposite Ted Neeley).

Other stage productions include the L.A. premiere of The Road Theatre production of "The Woman In Black" (the Actor) directed by Ken Sawyer, "Assassins" (John Hinckley) at Reprise - with members of the original Broadway cast, "Children of Eden" (Caine - Robby Award) at Musical Theatre West, "Godspell" (Jesus) at the St. Louis MUNY, and "Pirates of Penzance" (Fredrick) at The Sacramento Music Circus.

On film, David was the voice of the Prince in the Warner Bros. animated feature "The King & I", and can also be heard as "Willy" in Disney's "Home On The Range". Recordings include the soundtracks to "Ghepetto", "The King & I", and "Home on the Range". Also the recordings "Strouse, Schwartz, & Schwartz", "Lerner, Loewe, and Lane" and "Lee Lessack's - In Good Company".

Listenting to Quereataro's University broadcast, I selected a classical
music section on the radio, I heard a special program of Sarah Brightman and
circumstantial guests. In that program, they presented Sarah's "Shymphony" Album.
It was wondeful and I enjoyed every single tune and I decided to re-built that splendid
musical session. I wrote the tracks and the order that they were presented, and searched them on Internet and, finally, I collected all of them. This is the whole program.
We can listen the gorgeous voice of Sarah Brightman, and we can enjoy performances from Moby, The Ten Tenors from Australia and "Libera" with their clear and pure voices.

Daniel Boys (born 26 March 1979 in Greenwich, London) is a British musical theatre actor, best known for his popular appearance in the BBC series Any Dream Will Do in 2007.

In 2008 Boys recorded a song for the CD Act One - Songs From The Musicals Of Alexander S. Bermange, an album of 20 brand new recordings by 26 West End stars, released in October 2008 on Dress Circle Records. He also has recorded a track with actor John Barrowman for his new album Music Music Music which is a version of I Know Him So Well.

His debut album 'So Close' launched on Monday June 1st 2009, something Daniel had always wanted to complete. Mixed by Grammy award-winner and cousin Jerry Boys in early 2009, each track was carefully chosen to reflect Daniel's varied taste in music (or perhaps something dear to him). The penultimate track 'Always There' features the backing vocals of friends, family and fellow cast members as a tribute to their support and friendship.

Daniel also recorded the song 'My Brother's Eyes' on Terry Pratchett's 'Only You Can Save Mankind', which was released on November 23rd, 2009.

Boys has also recorded a version of I Know Him So Well with John Barrowman for his 2008 album Music Music Music.

A significant subset of the secular songs are regarded as “Christmas” songs due to the time of year that they are most often sung, despite never mentioning anything about Christmas. These songs include favorites such as “Winter Wonderland”, “Let it Snow”, "Trains And Winter Rains", “Sleigh Ride” (whose standard lyrics mention not a holiday party but a birthday party) and the now hugely popular Christmas standard "Jingle Bells", which was originally written to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Many of these songs fall into the generic “winter” classification, as they carry no Christmas connotation at all. To popularize a winter-themed song, especially in the United States, without its being regarded as a “Christmas” song, would be difficult. In fact, winter-themed songs are generally not played on the radio in the U.S. during the larger part of the winter after the hristmas season has ended, although they may receive limited radio airplay on some stations, particularly after a significant snow event.

Peter Breiner was born in Humenne in Eastern Slovakia, where he started piano lessons at the age of four. He went to study at the Bratislava Conservatory and, then, at he Prague College of Music and Drama, concentraitng at the latter in composition...On completing his studies he began work as musical supervisor of the Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava and for OPUS Records and Publishing House. He has had a varied career which has involved the conductorchip of the Czechoslovak Radio Children's Choir, regular piano performances at jazz concertos ans workin as an orchestral conductor and arranger.
Here is his personal view al Christmas Music, with a strong touch of Baroque Style, it sounds like Bach, Gabrielli, Händel, Teleman or Vivaldi. JMRL

An Italian chamber orchestra, Rondó Veneziano set itself apart from many groups of similar style by not only employing mostly women musicians and making it a rule to perform in period Baroque dress, but mainly because they were able to meld traditional chamber music pieces to modern backing tracks, rhythms, and percussion lines, almost giving their classical sound a club music foundation that sometimes bordered on prog rock. Their first big break came in the United Kingdom in 1983, with the single "La Serenissima," which was followed two years later by a successful appearance providing the score to the film Not Quite Jerusalem. Gregorian Christmas Chants

I like most of what Gregorian has done on previous works, and I love Christmas music! How could I go wrong? However, I did not really expect to love this so much. It has quickly become one of my favorite Christmas albums. It's the same Gregorian sound, but they added more of what I always thought they needed- more complex vocal arrangement. Ranging from classical to contemporary, GREGORIAN once again bring their unique vocal stylings to 16 of our favorite holiday songs. This is easily their finest album yet, and one I find myself listening to year-round.
Although every track on this album rates very highly in my book, my favorites are still:
Amazing Grace: Simply the most beautiful version of this song I've heard
Pie Jesu: An amazing tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber
Gloria In Exelsis: An awesome vocal arrangemet
Happy Xmas War Is Over: The children's choir adds wonder to this classic
All in all, this is one of the most listenable CD's I've ever owned. Fans
of Mannheim Steamroller and Sarah Brightman will love this CD, as well as
most of Gregorian's other works.
Theres more harmony, more rounds, more of basically everything. If you love Christmas music, you'll love this. JMRL

The Priests, the singing global superstars who broke the Guinness world record for the fastest selling classical debut album of all time release their second album entitled Harmony. The Priests, brothers Fathers Martin and Eugene O’Hagan and Father David Delargy, were young school friends when they first sang together at the age of 12 (Martin and David) and 15 (Eugene). (drums and percussion') and Michael Ende (bass), both from LETZTEN INSTANZ, and the renowned producer, Günther Gebauer, she creates her dream of combining "old music with contemporary ways". Here too, just as with the predecessor "Neuland", her own compositions are blended with newly arranged classics to form a furious mix of classical music, rock, pop, jazz and folk.

Her extraordinary feel for melodies and arrangements is expressed not only in the three classical pieces that have literally undergone rejuvenation through passages composed in a contemporary style. But her own compositions are brimming over with her creativity and a melange of styles. "Captain Islay", right from the very beginning, with its intoxicating melodies showcases the many facets of this artistic violinist. It capitates the audience from the first notes, sometimes wild, sometimes melancholically tender.

Edward Grieg's, "In der Halle des Bergkönigs" ("In the Hall of the Mountain King") from the Peer Gynt Suite surprises us with the modern sound effects that fit skilfully into this classical piece. The Eastern-inspired "Nimbu Pani", in which she plays her second instrument, the hurdy-gurdy, leading her audience's thoughts to India with its exotic rhythms and proving that ANNA KATHARINA has not only mastered the violin and the viola.

The impressively fresh yet respectful interpretation of Sarasate's "Zigeunerweisen" - a masterpiece where violinist wants to show off their abilities - leaves no doubt about ANNA KATHARINA's skill, her expectations of herself and her enormous musical talent.

The Old High German Minnesong "Loibere Risen", accompanied by the hurdy-gurdy, inspires the listener with its tender and affectionate violin with a drum in the background. But even the folk fiddle has found its place on "Saitensprung". "Flying Cow" encourages the audience to dance and clap along cheerfully. ANNA KATHARINA's homage to the large world of soundtracks, especially the James Bond classic, is mirrored in "Geschüttelt - nicht gerührt" ("Shaken, Not Stirred").

Johann Sebastian Bach's "Partita in E Major" undergoes a wonderful rejuvenation: drums, bass and violin take the audience onto an emotional rollercoaster from dreamily solemn to compellingly racy. "Close Your Eyes" with its complex, sacred choir and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", sung soulfully by the artist, are the emotionally agitating conclusion of her second solo CD.

"Saitensprung" impresses not only with enormous stylistic spectrum and playful perfection. It is also enlivened with ANNA KATHARINA's passionate love of music that is expressed everywhere by the finely designed artwork and affectionate implementation.

michael buble - crazy love special edition (2009)

The album was recorded for six months in Los Angeles, New York, and Vancouver (his hometown). It was produced by David Foster, Bob Rock and Humberto Gatica. Michael Bublé describes his album as the "ultimate record about the inevitable roller coaster ride of relationships."

"Haven't Met You Yet,” is the first single. It was written by Bublé, Alan Chang and Amy Foster (former collaborators) is scheduled to be released on August 31st. Also, a "frisky" mix of "Baby (You've Got What it Takes) was released weeks prior.

It was named after Van Morrison's 1970's song, "Crazy Love" with a cover version included on the album

The album was initially supposed to be released on October 13, but due to fan demand, the album was scheduled to be released 4 days prior (October 9).

A special edition (available only through his official store) will be available for pre-order on September 11. It includes the original full length CD, a "making-of" DVD, a remix CD, and a 32 page booklet.

In the UK, the album will be released on October 19.

Amaury Vasily was born in 1990. Originally from Normandy, as a child he was soon fascinated by music and especially singing. He took his first lessons at the age of nine. At fourteen, he participated in his first contest, and decides that he wanted to be a singer. He will skim the roads of France to take part in various competitions and won the Coupe de France de la Chanson Française in 2004. Following this successes, he enrolled at the Little Dreams Foundation in Switzerland, then took singing lessons in the school by Richard Cross in 2005. There he will discover his talent as a classical performer.

Vassili is the youngest tenor in the world reportedly. He released his first album March 23rd. Entitled "Vincero", on this cd he sings as well "classics" like "The Godfather" theme ("Parla Piu Piano"), than Leonard Cohen ("Hallelujah"), Queen ("Who Wants to Live Forever") or Elgar ("Lucente Stella" on "Pomp and Circumstances").

Strong, direct, clear, velvety, powerful and amazingly breath-taking, this album is proof that talent is not a matter of age. And he's truly handsome too!

It's not until "Biking Home" that you might even recognise Gerrard's voice in this quietly joyful mood piece. She only gives herself full, if understated, voice on the symphonic closing track "Go Forward" which echoes Gladiator's "Now We Are Free", but with Maori chanting. Though there is some compelling music on Whale Rider, much of it sounds bereft without the accompanying images.

Yulia's second album Montage is an appropriate description of this diverse fourteen track album. She opens with the lush "We're All Alone." Her lilting, rich tones in conjunction with the lovely orchestral accompaniment highlights the special draw of this musical artist. She exhibits a compassionate quality in her vocals. "No One Like You," reminiscent of Sarah Brightman's version, has a majestic air to it, with Yulia's gorgeous, soaring vocals. There is a gentleness to her singing, but then again, she can belt out her tunes with the best of them. Pop tune "Maybe" showcases her more contemporary side.

"You Are Here" opens with a soothing piano intro, and Yulia takes over with her luxuriant voice. The end result is a song filled with passion and power driven vocals. She continues with this passionate ardor in "Everything You Touched." Yulia whisks the listener away to Spain with the famed aria "Habanera" from Bizet's opera Carmen. Her exquisite operatic version is filled with fiery abandon. Another classic,, "Che Faro," is beautifully orchestrated and sung with perfection by Yulia. She sings with striking authority and warmth throughout this melodic piece. She continues in the same vein with "To Ni Veter."

Her versatility is evident as she lures the listener in "With You I'm Born Again." Through her gentleness of tone and lush passages, she engages the passionate side of emotion. This passion continues with another classic, "Pavane," by Faure. She follows this song with the wonderful James Bond theme "Nobody Does It Better." She sings the Marvin Hamlisch tune with sultry seduction and abandon.

The classical french love song "Plaisir d'Amour" is beautifully sung by this divine chanteuse. Charlotte Church, sang this song with a very different flair from the splendid Yulia, whose tones have a depth and richness that only her stunning contralto voice can execute so well. In "The Actress" there are exciting and powerful vocal crescendos. She concludes this fantastic album with the Freddie Mercury cover "The Show Must Go On." She sings this famed song with an emotive and powerful tribute to the meaningful depth of Mercury's epitaph.

In addition to the CD, the special edition includes a stunning DVD of her Montage live showcase from April 2006. The DVD allows the viewer a wonderful opportunity to watch the amazing Yulia in action. She owns the stage and her performance is quite enrapturing. She possesses great showmanship and definitely puts on a great show.

Montage is a complex and enlightening mosaic of songs that showcase Yulia's amazing talent. She shows great versatility in her style and does not fail to please. She can be likened to Sarah Brightman in her operatic and contempory stylings, but Yulia stands out with her incredible rich, contralto vocals as well as her fervent and heartfelt approach to her music.

Hi, I’m Sungha Jung from South Korea.

My dream is to become a professional acoustic fingerstyle guitarist.
I just turned twelve in September, 2008.

Currently, I am taking weekly classical guitar lessons and teaching myself fingerstyle guitar. I used to not have tabs for the music that I played in my videos. I just listen and pick them up directly from the sound source in videos available on the internet.

However, recently, I have started playing with original tabs whenever they are available to me by courtesy of the authors. My guitar is custom made to fit my body size, and on it, Thomas

Everyone by now knows Britain’s own “Operababes” Rebecca Knight and Karen England. Their meteoric rise to fame began in 2001 when, after busking in Covent Garden to support their singing lessons, the two exquisite song birds were discovered by a talent scout who invited them to perform at the FA Cup Final, televised to 500 million people across the globe, and the UEFA Champions League final in Milan. A record company bidding war began, and the OperaBabes were born.

A rich tapestry of female voices at their very best. Sharp drum beats, breathy lead vocals and a hint of the Middle East along with swelling orchestral backing.

Each album features traditional medieval songs and poetry set to music, mostly arranged by Blake specifically for the ensemble, alongside varying numbers of original compositions. They sing in a variety of languages, including Latin, Middle English, French, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Cadenet, Scottish English, German, Manx Gaelic, Spanish, Welsh, Bavarian, Provençal, Irish Gaelic, modern English and the nearly extinct Cornish. Their vocals are backed by medieval instruments, including the recorder and cittern, played by the singers or fellow musicians.

The Bæbes' musical pieces run the gamut from extremely traditional, such as their version of The Coventry Carol on Salva Nos, to songs that feel traditional but are much more modern, such as their rendition of Summerisle, a song written for Robin Hardy's 1973 cult film Wicker Man. John Cale added non-medieval instruments, including saxophone and electric guitar, to some of the arrangements on Undrentide, although with subsequent albums the band returned to more traditional instruments. Even with these instruments, however, the band's current style is quite different from medieval authentic performance groups, as it displays significant modern influence, this juxtaposition most notably apparent in the Bæbes's latest album Illumination (2009) produced by KK (Kevin Kerrigan).

Susan Boyle (born 1961) is a Scottish amateur singer and church volunteer who came to public attention on 11 April 2009, when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Britain's Got Talent. Teresa Salgueiro (pron. IPA: [tɨ.'re.zɐ.saɬ.'gej.ɾʊ]), OIH (born Amadora, 8 January 1969) is a Portuguese singer. She is best known as the lead singer of Madredeus from 1987 until 2007. As a young girl, Teresa Salgueiro sang the traditional Portuguese music Fado and Brazilian bossa nova in the streets and taverns of Lisbon. She moved to old Lisbon to live with friends at the age of 16 and continued her singing.

Salgueiro met guitarist and producer Pedro Ayres Magalhães in 1987 and formed Madredeus together with Francisco Ribeiro on cello, Gabriel Gomes on accordion and Rodrigo Leão on keyboards. The band has been together since 1987, recording 11 albums released through record companies such as Blue Note Records, Nettwerk and EMI Records, all subsidiaries of EMI. Madredeus has also played throughout the world.

Teresa Salgueiro played a prominent part in the 1994 Wim Wenders' Lisbon Story (Viagem a Lisboa) together with Magalhães. Salgueiro and Magalhães recorded the soundtrack with Madredeus, released as Ainda in 1994.

Salgueiro has sung on albums by Carlos Nuñez and António Chainho released in 2000.

In November 2005 Teresa Salgueiro edited her first CD (Obrigado), with the participation of other musicians such as Caetano Veloso, Carlos Núñez, José Carreras and Angelo Branduardi. She is currently one of Portugal's most acclaimed singers. (Wikipedia)

After years of singing in choirs, acting in musicals and operas, and singing alot of classical repretoire Tiffany Apan takes an edgier turn with her debut album, "Poet." The classically trained singer teamed up with veteran musician, Jason English, to write and produce and album that could quite possibly be a new sound for the music industry. The album includes tracks such as the haunting ethereal pop ballad, "Ghost," the eclectic "Run Away and Hide," and gothic/celtic infused "Ashes to Dust," the atmospheric "Scarborough Fair," the fast-paced rock song "Warrior," and the easy-listening/Patsy Cline influenced "Whispers" among many other gems. Tiffany uses semi operatic vocals on this album which provide a beautiful angelic contrast to English's the gothic-tinged music compositions. She has often been compared with diverse artists such as Sarah Brightman, Loreena McKennit, Enya, Nightwish, The Gathering, Lana Lane, Charlotte Church, and Lacuna Coil.

For the first time, the great French tenor has recorded a repertoire that he could sing every day without ever getting tired of it: "These songs are a part of me".

The first language Alagna spoke, as well as the first one in which he sang, was Sicilian. He's not hiding the fact that The Sicilian is also a search for identity: "I suddenly felt Sicilian while recording this disc, just like I suddenly felt French while singing La Marseillaise (on Bastille Day of 2005 at the Place de la Concorde). This is the disc of a son of Sicilians looking for his roots."

"In this recording", says Roberto Alagna, "I wanted to present the traditional song as the equal of the tango, of jazz or of the bossa nova." To achieve this, he once again called upon Yvan Cassar, who had already produced the album Roberto Alagna sings Luis Mariano, his incursion into the repertoire of operetta. "Who am I to make a disc of traditional Sicilian music?" the producer asked at first. "But the songs are magnificent, the melodies are unbelievably beautiful and I took advantage of Roberto's knowledge of this repertoire to convey it in the most universal way."

Alagna recorded the songs in the studio, surrounded by a few musicians, then Cassar added some extra touches: festive brasses on A lu mircatu, a bamboo flute and oriental percussion for Carrettieri, the flavours of Greece in the 3/4 time of Li Pira, the light, melancholy sound of the mandolin for Si maritau Rosa: taken all together, the musical portrait of a brilliantly colourful and constantly changing Sicily, a Sicily of poetry at times radiant, at others heartrending, but always intoxicated with emotion.

Two of Yvan Cassar's musical heroes were Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, and he “discovered that they had listened to a great deal of Sicilian music". So, as if to offer an even more overt universality to some of these anonymous Sicilian folk melodies, such as Mi votu, he provided woodwind and strings in the grand tradition of Italian film music.

And how could one resist the atmosphere of the cinema when arranging Parla più piano, the famous love theme from The Godfather, the only song in Italian in the whole album?

Elīna Garanča (born September 16, 1976) is a Latvian mezzo-soprano. Born into a musical family in Riga, Garanča entered the Latvian Academy of Music in 1996 to study singing with Sergej Martinov. She continued her studies in Vienna with Irina Gavrilović and in the United States with Virginia Zeani. Garanča began her professional career at the Südthüringisches Staatstheater in Meiningen and later worked at the Frankfurt Opera. In 1999 she won the Mirjam Helin Singing Competition in Helsinki, Finland.

John Scot Barrowman (born 11 March 1967) is a Scottish-born American actor, singer, dancer, musical performer and media personality, currently based in England.

Barrowman is best known on British television for his acting and presenting work for the BBC. His most prominent television role has been as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and its spin-off series Torchwood. He has featured in such light entertainment shows as Live & Kicking, Any Dream Will Do, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, and I'd Do Anything as well as appearing on the celebrity ice skating show Dancing on Ice. As a result of his family's move to Illinois when he was eight years old, Barrowman speaks in an American accent on screen but reverts to a Scottish accent when with family or in Scotland.

Barrowman is openly gay. He was voted the 2006 Stonewall "Entertainer of the Year" and was third in Broadcast magazine's "Hottest Commodity" poll in November 2006.

Barrowman appeared as a guest act for the Royal Variety Performance, which was staged at the London Palladium on Thursday 11 December 2008.

Although classical crossover artists are not unique, few are truly adept at handling the subtleties of pop music, as they simply bend their quasi-operatic voices to fit into the confines of a pop melody. It's a bit like watching a seven-foot basketball star exit his limo, and then fold his body into a little sports car -- he may be able to get into the auto, but it's not necessarily a comfortable fit. Russell Watson is the rare exception who is comfortable in both settings, as listening to him is like listening to two distinct people; there is the powerful tenor who can handle the rigorous demands of operatic solos, and there is the suave Europop singer who can deftly navigate the intricacies of a popular song. Unlike his contemporaries, Watson has the unique ability to actually change his voice in order to fit the style of music he is performing. An example of this morphing technique can be heard on the first two tracks of Reprise, his third solo disc. Opening with Cottrau's "Santa Lucia," Watson's well-supported tenor sounds like a younger, less-excitable Mario Lanza as he gives a warm reading to this Italian favorite. Then, as if a multi-CD player were set on shuffle mode, a breathy and slightly husky voice enters in on "Immenso Sogno," a European-style pop ballad that Watson sings in a hushed tone devoid of any classical technique. The difference is immediate and effective, and allows Watson to successfully live in two separate musical worlds that embrace his talents. However, there are drawbacks on each side of the fence. Although his tenor is getting stronger, he will most likely not be able to obtain the majestic richness and depth of a true master like Pavarotti, but that's just fine, as his capable work can still be admired and enjoyed. On the pop music side, Watson doesn't always select the best English-language songs to cover, as evidenced by the inclusion of Mike + the Mechanics' "The Living Years," in which the listless arrangement and repetitive structure simply do not mesh with the balance of the disc. In addition to that misstep, there is not much on Reprise that is different from its two predecessors, except for the fact that Watson's voice is improving. Basically, it adds up to a pleasant listen that will continue to charm audiences of both pop and classical music. --Aaron Latham

Toronto's Sophie Milman has that rare ability to appeal to two often deeply separated worlds: those who like their jazz light and those purists who want their jazz heavy and nothing short of it. By having a more-than-capable traditional jazz band and challenging herself vocally to bring the swing, she has commanded respect from both camps. Milman's delivery is silky smooth, a gorgeous voice with a low register reminiscent of Fiona Apple and an upper register that brings Ella Fitzgerald's bounce and playfulness to mind. Like many jazz vocal discs, her sophomore release Make Someone Happy contains an abundance of covers, but some rather surprising in style. The often-done "Fever"’s arrangement is nothing like the original, containing more of an unnerving musical undercurrent than the traditional sultry one. Milman--who recorded this disc in her early 20s--covers a number of underdone melodies, from Stevie Wonder's "Rocket Love" to the Guess Who's "Undun" with composer/original band guitarist Randy Bachman offering his sonic inflections to the song. Disc high points include the smokin' jam "It Might As Well Be Spring," the sexy bossa nova of original track "Something in the Air Between Us" and the beautiful cover of "Eli, Eli" by Second World War Holocaust hero and poet Hannah Senesh. Irfan is a Bulgarian ethereal/world/medieval music band that was founded in 2001. The band's name is borrowed from the Sufi terminology and can be translated from Persian and Arabic as "gnosis", "mystic knowledge" or "revelation". Irfan's music is an invitation for a mystical trip in and beyond time, a message, poetically extended in the language of the heart. World reviews are hesitant about the genre categorization of Irfan's music, determining it as Neoclassical / World Music / Sacred Music / Ethereal Music / Heavenly voices. Irfan's music is strongly influenced by the sacred and folk music traditions of Bulgaria, the Balkans, Persia, Caucasus, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as by the musical and spiritual heritage of Byzantium and Medieval Europe, yet it retains its own original sound.

On Seraphim, band's second CD, the musicians of Irfan use traditional (Bulgarian, Balkan, Oriental, Persian, Indian) and medieval European instruments and vocal techniques from the same regions and historical periods, skilfully woven into a delicate electronic sound. Irfan is also known for its extensive use of a choir of strong male vocals in addition to the ethereal and mystic female vocals in combination with an assortment of traditional and medieval string, wind and percussive instruments including the oud, saz, santoor, viola da gamba, tambura, duduk, darbouka, daf, bendir, zarb and riq.

Fleming is in fine voice, free of mannerisms, and elegant in phrasing in a wide range of works by Handel ('Rejoice greatly', 'He shall feed his flock'), Bach ('Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben'), both Gounod's and Schubert's 'Ave Maria', Mozart ('Laudate dominum' from the Solemn Vespers and 'Laudamus te' from the Great Mass), Bernstein's Mass ('A Simple Song'), Fauré ('Pie Jesu'), Poulenc ('Domine Deus' from the Gloria), Franck ('Panis Angelicus'), and other composers. She even includes the 'Evening Prayer' from Humperdinck's 'Hänsel und Gretel'.

The recital is conducted by Andreas Delfs with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Far from being a crossover ploy this album is a collection of beautiful music beautifully sung.
