According to record label PR, Eve O'Donnell, Laura Cunningham and Sharon Moran met in Dublin. They were all blonde and were all in their early twenties. The three girls sang barefoot practising the "Alexander Technique" while singing. Produced by Ross Callum, the sound of their debut album was similar to his earlier productions for Clannad and Moya Brennan. Callum has also worked on albums with Enya and Paul McCartney.

This is their first album released in Ireland on June 6th, 2006. It reached no 1 in the Irish classical chart. They won Best Traditional Act at Belfast’s Big Buzz Awards & the Irish Post Award for Best Newcomer of 2006.

Triniti then toured and supported UK groups G4 and Aled Jones in two extensive UK and Irish Tours.

The group split in early 2007. Vocalist Laura Cunningham has since started a career in the Irish media, presenting fashion on breakfast show Ireland AM on Ireland's TV3 and writing for an Irish newspaper.

azam ali - elysium for the brave (2006)

Azam Ali was born in Iran but spent most of her early years in India before moving to the US in the mid eighties. She is a vocalist of astonishing diversity with a range covering music from the mediaeval European to the classical Eastern - Persian, Lebanese and Indian.

In November 1995, along with Greg Ellis, Ali formed Vas, producing four albums: Sunyata (1997), Offerings (1998), In The Garden Of Souls (2000), and Feast of Silence (2004).

In 2002 she released her first solo album, Portals of Grace, which saw her expand her repertoire even farther and prove her to be equally as adept in singing in 13th century French-Provençal, Galician and Ladino as she is in Arabic.
In 2005, Ali worked on a new project called Niyaz with solo artist Carmen Rizzo and Axiom of Choice member Loga Ramin Torkian. Its self-titled album, Niyaz features Ali’s vocals sung in Urdu and Farsi, backed up by more electronica-style music.

In June 2006, Ali released her latest solo album, Elysium For The Brave, where she includes English singing in her repertoire.

"Elysium For The Brave", Azam's second solo album, signals a new turn in her musical evolution. The album, her most ambitious work to date, brings together musicians from varied musical backgrounds performing in diverse permutations. The result is a highly coherent body of work that seamlessly weaves together all of Azam's cultural and musical influences into a haunting tapestry of atmospheric rock, electronic, and global sounds. Singing predominantly in English for the first time, the songs are based on lyrics written by Azam herself.

Debut album by The Planets, the eight-piece act made up of classically trained musicians in their twenties. They describe their music as "classical fusion", as they give classical pieces a modern twist. Mike Batt, the award winning composer, assisted them with the album.

The title of the Planets' debut album, Classical Graffiti, aptly encapsulates the latest project by Mike Batt, whose career has long steered a path between camp and classical, from serious orchestral concerts to pop hits, from film scores to masterminding the Wombles. Recently Batt gave the world Bond, and the Planets are even more of the same--four classically trained young women, this time partnered by four classically trained young men. The result is 16 Batt-arranged and produced tracks, both originals and covers of famous classical melodies, some acoustic, most given a polished MOR rock-dance twist. The Planets made their public debut supporting Deep Purple's 2002 UK tour and there's more than a hint of 1970s prog-rock, which, combined with an energetic feel, should go down a storm with an enthusiastic audience.

Antony and the Johnsons is a Mercury Prize-winning music act from New York City. The band is essentially the vehicle for singer Antony (full name Antony Hegarty).

Antony Hegarty is the leader of Antony and the Johnsons. He was born in Chichester, West Sussex, England in 1971 and moved to Amsterdam in 1977 for a period before settling in San Jose, California in 1981. As a teenager he was enthused by the British synth pop of the time — in particular emotive torch singers such as Marc Almond and Boy George. In 1990 he moved to Manhattan to complete a degree in Experimental Theatre at New York University and founded the performance collective Blacklips Performance Cult with creative partner Johanna Constantine. Current members include:

cistercian monks - chant music for paradise

The product of a religious talent contest, The Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz perform sacred chants and psalms with a variety of settings from the scriptures. Taking in traditional Gregorian chant in a modern and aesthetically sparing style, these men of the cloth aim to relax and de-stress the listener with their soothing voices. Maintaining a public face of complete religiosity, the monks who appear on 'Chant' refuse any press attention and don't perform in any traditional public arenas apart from their own monastery.

This album is a curious surprise. The countertenor voice is an instrument that is rarely written for in this era, and just as rarely heard. To find it at the center fo an album that is thoroughly modern, and possibly even popular is to experience a strange moment of dislocation, as something old is used to evoke something contemporary. Frederic Momont is the composer of a set of pieces that are hard to pin down, and Thomas Otten is the chosen voice.

Working with Otten are classical elements as well as electronic. You will hear instrument samples, piano violins, cello and the true soprano voice of Caroline Mutel. Otten's voice itself has a fragile melancholy sweetness to it that can haunt the listener, blending with Mutel's crystalline sound occasionally to provide a fascinating contrast.

Momont's music is easy going and melodic, very much a vehicle for Otten's work with nary a touch of conflict between the two. The pieces alternate between classical texts such as Ombra Mai Fu and a Petrarch Sonnet to curious sets of syllables as in Close To Silence as well as verses by Momont. All this makes for an album that could be perceived very serious music or as polished background music. Very likeable in any case.

'Tissues And Issues' is the first full-on pop album by former child opera star Charlotte Church. Combining elements of soul with a sassy pop sensibility, 'Tissues And Issues' is proof positive that Charlotte Church can turn her spectacular vocal abilities to any genre. Includes the single 'Crazy Chick' and I've been going crazy about this song for a while in 2005. Unfortunately this album did not make a hit and was not released in the US. I wonder what is happenening to Charlotte Church now, never heard about her since she gave birth, although I learned she is still during vocal lessons with her coach. I wish she makes another classical crossover album..

One of Plácido Domingo's most personal albums to date as he performs coplas, the traditional popular songs of Hispanic origin with which he grew up.

Coplas express melodramatic, amorous sentiments, relate humorous incidents, historical events or comment on everyday life. In Spain the genre had a boom in the 1930s when many composers of popular songs and light classical music contributed to the tradition with art songs.

Domingo has made a personal selection of coplas – he describes them as “mini operas” – and recorded them in Madrid with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid under Miguel Roa. All songs have been newly arranged – the result is this revival of a beautiful, nostalgic genre.
